Face Masks – will we all be wearing them soon?

Face masks to Face people

Face masks to face people

In many countries including Germany, Austria,  Czech Republic, Slovakia and Turkey, wearing of a face mask in public is mandatory to help curtail the spread of Covid-19 as citizens are gradually regaining their freedom. It is likely other countries will follow as lock down restrictions are relaxed.

Currently there is no Law in the UK about wearing Face Masks when in public. In Scotland, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has already recommended wearing face masks when out in Public where Social Distancing may be difficult. Boris Johnston, has yet to officially announce his plans. It is however likely, as the lock down eases, we will be encouraged to wear a face covering in crowded spaces including on public transport, while shopping and in the work place!

There is still much debate about how effective mask wearing will be. It is known that corona virus can be spread through tiny droplets of infected particles in the air. If an infected person sneezes, numerous infected particles become airborne.  If we can minimise the spread of these infected droplets, the infection rate will reduce.

One of the issues with corona virus, apart from it’s vast infection rate, is that certain people are carriers. They have the virus, have no symptoms, and therefore unknowingly infect many more people. Additionally, an infected person will not display symptoms for 5-14 days after becoming infectious – Face masks for all will help tackle this problem.

Face masks will help those already carrying the virus from passing it to others,  and can also help reduce the chances of the uninfected contracting the virus by breathing in the infected particles. There are now so many cloth face mask options available on the market that are ideal to help  reduce the spread the transmission of disease when social distancing cannot be guaranteed. These masks are not of medical grade, so are not appropriate for front line workers, but they are ideal for the general public to help prevent us from spreading the virus and to help reduce our chances of becoming infected.

Wearing of face masks in public is likely to become the norm. With plenty of styles and options to chose from, we need to all start planning for the future – we will not be locked down forever! Masks are available in cotton, polyester and now also anti-bacterial micro-fibre. They can be laundered,  used daily and many of them are soft and comfortable to wear. They are also available plain or printed and is another great way to make sure your logo is  visible!

Contact me if you are looking for Face masks or Buffs for your staff, organisation or family. We can do branded options from 50 units, or we can do plain masks in smaller quantities.

Mug prices soar in the New Year

Branded MugsOn 15th November 2012, the EU Commission increased duty on all imported ceramic products from China to between 17.6% and 58.8%.

Most member states were opposed to this rise, however the new higher tax has been implemented.

This tax increase directly affects the price of promotional mugs and other ceramic and bone china products in the UK and across Europe, as the majority of these products originate in China.

Price increases are likely to kick in during the early part of the new year when new stocks arrive from overseas. The scale of the price rises are unclear at this stage, but mug prices will rise significantly.

If you are considering purchasing branded mugs or other promotional ceramic products, contact us now as we still have good  stocks available for most of our mug range at low prices.

Selecting Promotional Products that are Effective

Many promotional products are used on a daily basis including mugs, pens, umbrellas, post-it pads and branded work-wear. If you are planning a promotional campaign to include promotional items consider carefully what products will be the most effective to help you get your message across?

To help work out the most appropriate products, consider the following:

1)  Target Audience

  • Are you aiming at children, youths, adults or any specific age groups
  • What are the common factors or interests for your target group
  • Are you targeting males , females or mixed groups.

It is important you have a have a clear target audience to help identify appropriate merchandise for an effective campaign.

2)  Purpose of campaign

  • Are you going to an event or an exhibition, or organising a conference?
  • Are you releasing new information like new contact details, new website or other important announcements?
  • Are you having a large gathering like an open day, gala day or corporate event?
  • Is the merchandise  general promotional material for existing clients and potential new contacts?

Once it is clear what the reason is for the campaign, relevant products with suitable branding areas can be identified. Careful consideration must be made to identify appropriate products  for your requirements e.g branded chocolate is not a good idea for a gala day on a hot summer’s day.

3)  Type of gift

  • Where do you want the gift to stay – at home, in the office, in the car, on the desk etc?
  • Has it to be a personal item?
  • Do you want the item to be in public view?

4)  Distribution

How are you going to distribute the gifts? If you are handing them out personally then there are fewer restrictions but if you are at an event visitors may not want to carry heavy or bulky gifts.

If you are planning a postal campaign remember to consider the cost of postage. Flatter and lighter items tend to be more economical.

5)  Budget

Have a clear idea what the ideal budget is  per item and what quantity you are considering. Larger quantities tend to have better price breaks but knowing this information from the start makes it easier to quickly identify the most appropriate items for a campaign.

6)  Branding Requirements

What are your branding requirements. If the products have to be printed, how many colours are in your logo. Bear in mind that additional colours cost more money in screen printed jobs.

On budget merchandise or smaller quantities, consider whether a single colour logo will effectively get your message across, as it is often considerably cheaper than multi-colour printing.

If your logo is multi-colour, it may be worth considering  products that can be digitally printed to keep your costs down.

7)  Delivery Date

When planning a campaign think carefully when you need the merchandise. Stock UK products have standard lead times usually around 2 weeks from artwork approval but this varies depending on the product and source.

Fast track items can be delivered on a faster service – as quickly as 24 hours for some pens! There is often a higher price to pay and the range of available items on this fast track service is restricted.

Plan your campaign and order your merchandise as early as possible so you can benefit from the best available prices  and you can select the most appropriate products to help your campaign work effectively.

8)  Ask for help

We have years of experience advising clients of the most appropriate merchandise for different purposes. We know of products that are available that you may not even have thought about and we can find products that will surprise you. We can help you find promotional merchandise that fits within your budget to optimise the effectiveness of your promotional campaigns, and we love a challenge!

Remember the most effective promotional items are functional and gimmicky products.

The Power of Promotional Mugs

Printed promotional mugs have been one of the most popular promotional items for years and are still a top performer in the corporate gift market for good reason.

If you consider how many cups of coffee or tea or other hot beverages an average person has in a day at the office, and the fact that often an empty mug will sit on the desk in full view until it is ready for a refill, printed mugs are the ideal promotional product to get you logo and message in front of your target market.

Current research by BPMA (British Promotional Merchandise Association) also shows that functional promotional products are kept up to an average of almost 3 years.

Do your sums:  a mug could cost you 0.01p or less per impression in its life time!

Branded mugs will give your logo great visibility over a long period of time resulting in an exceptionally low cost per impression.

But beware, not all printed mugs will offer the same quality of advertising. There are various grades of inks used to print onto the mugs and often the cheaper inks are not dishwasher proof and will fade after several washes. A faded dull logo is not a great image for any company.

If you are looking to purchase promotional mugs, make sure you are using a reputable supplier who use only the best quality inks to ensure your printing reflects the quality of your business, over a long period of time.

Mugs that can be direct printed have a great wrap-around print area to display text or graphics. If you need a large area, select mugs with straighter sides as bevelled or curved mugs have a much shallower print area.

Mugs that look good, and feel good,  may be used for many years.
